I am a marine ecologist and evolutionary biologist, professor at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. I study the evolutionary processes affecting marine organisms, and more specifically seaweeds, such as biogeographic divergence and speciation, adaptations to local and regional environments, and the effects of human activities. This research is developed by combining ecological experiments with population genetics. I am currently the president of the Chilean phycological society and the co-director of an international laboratory called “Evolutionary Biology and Ecology of Algae”, hosted by the French CNRS.
