I graduated in Biology from the Universidade Estadual Paulista “Julio de Mesquita Filho” (UNESP) in 1998, with a Masters (2001) and a PhD in Sciences (Botany) from the São Paulo University (2007), Brazil. Between 2008 and 2009, I did my PosDoc at Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, where I went on to become a Professor in 2010. From 2012 to 2017, I was the vice-coordinator of the Graduate Program in Aquaculture, with a small break in 2015 for a sabbatical year at Dalhousie University in Canada. Since 2017, I am the coordinator of the Graduate Program. My primary field of research is seaweed cultivation and the development of new seaweed-based products. I have been working closely with the Secretary of Aquaculture and Fisheries from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply to implement commercial seaweed farms in Brazil. I have published 35 peer-reviewed papers in internationally reputed journals, four book chapters, and 94 abstracts in Brazilian and International Conferences. I have supervised 16 Master’s students, 4 Ph.D. Students, 1 Post-Doc and 17 undergraduate students.
