I am Mr. Pong-masak' team and i try to answer your question...i'm sorry we dont have data about the correlation between visco and environment.. we hope next time can inform you about it... but if we compare with other quality (carrageenan and gel strenght) of kappa there is no correlation beetween viscosity .
About the criteria of strain we just put the samples from the dry seaweed after cultivated until 45 days in every site and the we process in laboratory for viscosity

Do you have any thoughts on why certain regions fare better than others in terms of seaweed growth and quality?
There may be seasonal growth differences in seaweed quality and growth rates between sites. When comparing between sites, have you thought of how to account for these differences?

based on the data Its depend on the season and water quality in every location,,because in every site has different water quality. We found that the highest production site has low in temperature and salinity. Compare with the lower production site we found high in temperature..These parameters directly impact for the growth of seaweed..we can see from the data that the end of the wet monsoon (rainy season) when rainfall was moderate of surface seawater temperature and salinity will provides ideal conditions for the growth of K. alvarezii

For the production factors we found the water quality can effect growth of K. alvarezii., The highest production area has low in temperature and salinity but for the quality there is no relation with production.. In our research we compare 14 cultivars of kappaphycus alvarezii from different location and we found that the highest growth rate not showing the high in quality (carrageenan, gel strenght, and viscocity)

Were the various cultivars distinguishable from each other based on molecular taxonomy techniques?

I am Mr. Pong-masak' team and i try to answer your question.. yes we can see with the sequences.. we can see the name of species with sequences and than compare the variation between spesies with Genbank data and the sequences result .. for this research we used mitochondrial-encoded cytochrome oxidase subunit one (COI) for identification.

Tanks for your valuable works. I have some comments :
1. It is better you mention when the research were done since I know that seasonal factors are one of the most important factor can influence the growth, carrageenan yield, viscosity and gel strength of Kappaphycus
2. it is better also that the period of study of your works should be longer not only 2-3 periods of planting.
